Weak component.
Did it break, or did it unscrew? it breaks
It's a drag, but it can be fixed. I'd hate to see this stop firmware development. It would be tougher to start reversing another brand

The SMA threads are holding all of the weather gaskets and there's a weak base. My replacement part is on the way from info@tyt888.com
An "antistatic pad", and wrist band is the only thing I would change about what you did. Most people who do this kind of work, know that static can damage the components in ways that are not easy to detect, or fix. It isn't going to happen every time , but the risk is there, so it's sort of like and insurance policy. You get that just in case. Otherwise, great job explaining all the things that can go wrong along the way.
ReplyDeleteI have two 2017s and even though they were not broken, YET, I swapped them out with the SMA connector from the UV-5R radio. Instead of sticking out, the antenna stem goes inside the connector. Much more sturdy. Same bolt down pattern and inside solder stem with both connectors. I ordered them from 409shop.
ReplyDeleteI have two of the MD2017s. The first one did break but I was able to fix it and would be happy to repair one for someone if they needed it done. I would also like to replace the SMA connector with the reverse SMA like is included in the UV-5R radio.
